Junior Schools Judging Competition

The 2024 Northern Beef Producers Expo once again included a Junior Schools Judging Competition, an event that allows school aged students to take part in a educational competition to grow their interest and immerse themselves in the industry. Students are tasked with assessing a pen of cattle from within Commercial Cattle Competition. The students had the opportunity to hear from an industry renowned judge on traits that are of commercial importance and relevance, before being asked to rate and place the individual animals within the pen. The competition included an individual appraisal of the animals and then the opportunity to perform a verbal overview of why the student placed the animals in that order. It was a great way for students to build confidence in not only cattle selection but also public speaking and decision making.
