Commercial Cattle Competition

In 2018, the NBP Inc. committee took a step away from usual business, with future growth and potential in mind and reintroduced an important event to the region – a Commercial Cattle Competition (CCC) which saw another great outcome in 2024.

For many years, the presence of a Commercial Cattle Competition in the Charters Towers region had been missing. The NBP Inc. were successful in reintroducing the competition with local graziers keenly accepting the opportunity to display some of the quality grass-fed cattle produced across the region. Despite challenging seasons, graziers provided an impressive line up of prime, trade and feeder cattle for presentation in the competition. A special sale is held in conjunction with the competition, yielding strong prices.

Feeder Steer Challenge

Following on from the Commercial Cattle Competition is the Feeder Steer Challenge, which was initiated to provide beef producers an opportunity to closely examine how their steers can perform on grain. The competition will take steers from a suitable ‘feeder’ weight – 380-450kg and age (0-2T) right through to a comprehensive carcass feedback system over a 100 day period with points awarded along the way.
